Super-thin high-carbon wire rod: a new technological challenge

At Caleotto we are facing a new technological challenge: adding even more flexibility and versatility to our mill to meet even the most exacting demands, continuing to ensure high standards of quality and precision.

The MEERdrive®PLUS technology, provided by SMS group and installed in our plant in Lecco, allowed us to improve current capacities, overcoming the limits and expanding the size range of our products. Thanks to these technologies we are able to offer even smaller diameters, specifically 5.0 mm and 4.5 mm, with numerous advantages for everyone, especially for the production of thin, drawn wires for ropes and high-performance wires of various thickness for springs, cold heading or rolling components.

In particular, the super-thin high-carbon wire rod stands out for its ability to delete the need for intermediate wire annealing and reduce the number of drawing pass sequences and, consequently, production costs. The wire rod also shows enhanced plasticity and excellent cold deformability, contributing to its versatility in several applications.
