Research, Development and Quality Management System
We invest in Research and Development to support the Quality Management System, focusing on both individual process phases and the entire production chain.
Process control and management of feedback information are among our priorities. Technological/plant development and the application of Industry 4.0 criteria for process control are aimed at achieving a higher-quality product with thermo-mechanical treatment and better dimensional tolerance.
The Business Unit Specialties is equipped with a system capable of promptly identifying the occurrence of defects and directing rolled products to the cus tomer in advance in relation to product quality classes. Furthermore, the system is able to provide alerts in case of abnormal situations in the process, so that operators can take the necessary corrective actions.
In addition to this, there is a laminated product detector to identify any defects and ensure the delivery of quality material. At the same time, with the aim of growing the internal organisational structure and sending a strong message of quality to the target market, Caleotto obtained Automotive IATF 16949 Certification.
To avoid faults and interruptions in the casting phase, we have developed monitoring and simulation systems for continuous casting processes through innovative control systems. The aim is to improve production performance by creating criteria that prevent out-of-process solidification.

Thanks to the commitment of Feralpi Group, the Business Unit Specialties also collaborates at a European level with a research network that allows us to monitor the state of the art of technology and identify partners who can support participation in research and development projects, as well as training events and cultural growth.
Approval of research projects and support through funding are crucial support for innovation and development activities. Projects are an excellent vehicle for training and increasing company know-how, thanks to the diverse skills obtainable through intensive collaboration with research partners.
Among others, the close collaboration with the metallurgy department of the Lecco facility of Politecnico di Milano, provides us with a fresh, up-to-date and stimulating academic insight that continuously drives us to improve the quality of our products and to question our methods and processes, thus remaining open to change and innovation. The involvement of researchers and university dissertation students, who then embark on a professional career at Caleotto, also guarantees us a constant expansion of skills that bring new insights and fuel our dynamic approach.
